The phrase on the shirt isn’t a direct quotation, but it grows straight out of 1 Thessalonians 5:18: “give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” (NIV). Paul doesn’t say give thanks for all circumstances — he says in them. The hard season is real; the thanks is given anyway, because God’s goodness doesn’t rise and fall with our week.

That’s the difference between being blessed and being grateful. Blessed is what God has done. Grateful is what we do about it. The first is true whether we notice or not; the second is a choice we make every morning, and Paul says it’s exactly what God wants from us. Wearing the two words together is a way of agreeing with him.
